Short-Term Running Goals:

I've decided that the reason Africans win marathons is because their training program consists of the threat of being eaten by lions and trampled by Elephants. I'd run like @%#$ too if a hungry lion were chasing me!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Run Susan G Komen 3 day, 60 mile race for the cure
Qualify for & Run in Boston Marathon

Personal:

In October '09 I weighed 248 lbs, and slept 16 hours a day.  I was miserable.  I decided to change that.  So far I've lost nearly 80 lbs, and started running.  It's been my dream, ever since I was a fat little kid, to run in the Boston Marathon... because I was born there.  Now I'm on a journey to the road home.

Married since 2001, had beautiful baby girl in July 08.

learned something about myself today.  It takes me 2-3 miles to "settle down".  You know how when you run at first you think "I can't do this.  This is gonna suck.  How can I possibly go 26.2 miles?" and then a while later your brain quiets?  Well mine takes 2 or so miles to do it.  By mile 3 or 4, I start feeling like I don't want to stop.  Not necessarily an "I can go all day" feeling, but more like the bad thoughts go away and there's just peace and if I can just put my foot in front of the other one (which I can), I'll be fine.

Achilles sleeve seems to be helping, but my shins are whining at me.  Must find my calf compression sleeves.  I feel like I'm being held together by paper clips and bubble gum.

P.S.

SPAGHETTI DOUGHNUTS!

Next step is addiction, you'll never be able to stop after that. Last chance to get off the train.
